Here’s what I have found out since the original post… The only difference seems to be the source computer, the new Mac Studio running macOS Monterey (12.4).Īs initial goal was to be able to send the highest sample rate to the DAC and then wrote up this post. I found that only 2-ch 16-bit Integer 32.0 kHz and 2-ch 16-bit Integer 44.1 kHz worked on the Mac Studio, while all the formats worked on my 2019 iMac! My 2019 iMac is running macOS Mojave (10.14.4) and all the Audio MIDI Set Up Formats, including 24-bit 96.0 kHz worked without issue. I got out the Google Fu and found that Audioengine FAQ says to launch Audio MIDI Set Up to specify the audio output format to use with the DAC.Īudio MIDI Set Up has a number of possible settings: you can select: 2 ch 16-bit Integer or 2ch 24-bit Integer 32.0, 44.1, 48.0, 88.2, or 96.0 kHz, for a total of 10 possible combinations. I had the same issue streaming any other audio from other sources to the D1 DAC. My Music library is Apple Lossless encoded rips or Apple Music. When connecting a my new Mac Studio to my Audioengine D1 external DAC I initially got nothing but noise, and distortion when playing my music. Only difference is the computer from what I can tell. With the Mac Studio I get tons of noise at all the 24-bit and higher sampling rates. When connected to my 2019 iMac I was able to drive the DAC at 24-bit 96.0 kHz without issue. In the end, I really prefer to use the vol up and vol down keys on my Logitech K350 keyboard.When connecting my Audioengine D1 external DAC to my Mac Studio (USB A port) the best rate I can get to work is 2 ch 16-bit Integer 44.1 kHz (as set in Audio MIDI Set Up). I understood global to mean MC didn't need to be in focus for that to work.but it's not working when out of focus. Now even the global setting only allows me to control volume with cmd + or cmd. I can click on the slider with my mouse or use volume knob on the DAC, but the keyboard is most convenient.Īt one time I had placed a MCC command into the resource.xml file which may have helped me use my keyboard keys. It appears that after the upgrade I can't use my keyboard vol up and vol down keys to affect the MC volume slider.
I always used internal volume along with the selected DAC device (Audioengine D1) in MC Audio settings. Moved my custom resources/resource.xml file during 25-26 upgrade as I've had issues before.
